Something's Missing!
I took a bowl,
a bit of flour,
I only had
a half-an-hour.
I had Mom's old sifter
and Pop's old cup
and a big old spoon
to mix them up.
Some baking soda
to make them rise;
my muffins could win
a baking prize!
Bran muffins for
my Honey's lunch.
I didn't skimp --
I made a bunch!
He left for work
that autumn day.
I tasted one.
To my dismay,
something was wrong
with my special treat!
One bite revealed --
they were not sweet!
The batter was not
too thick or thin;
I just didn't put
the sugar in!
My good intentions
are not enough
if I don't add
the proper stuff!
I spread on jelly;
it helped them not;
inside they were
a bitter lot.
That night, my hubby
had a pout.
He said he spit
his muffin out!
The moral of
this muffin tale
is: follow the
recipe without fail.
Of outward appearance
we'd better not boast.
It's what's inside
that counts the most!

"......the Lord sees not as man sees;
for man looks on the outward appearance,
but the Lord looks on the heart."
(from I Samuel 16:7)
