Tell me Why

          From the Garden of Gethsemane
          unto Golgotha's hill,
          Lord Jesus Christ determined
          to fulfill the Father's will.

The Sinless One, the Perfect Man,
the One who had no blame,
          Chose to endure the agony,
          the thorny crown, the shame.

          Legions of holy angels
watched in horror, swords drawn high,
One nod from Him, they'd purge the earth
          and everyone would die.

          But Jesus, full of mercy,
who is called Faithful and True,
          Pleaded, "Father, forgive them
for they know not what they do."

          The Father's heart was breaking
as Christ hung upon that tree,
When He heard Jesus cry out:
          "Why hast Thou forsaken Me?"

The Most High One, the Creator,
          Magnificent I Am,
          Had now fulfilled the scriptures
          as The Sacrificial Lamb.

When Christ said, "It is finished!"
and He bowed His head and died,
The temple veil was rent in twain,
          the earth shook side-to-side.

And dead saints came out of their graves
          and walked the street unshod,
          "Truly," said the centurion,
"this was the Son of God!"

          The crucifixion, long foretold
          and planned before creation,
Has made Lord Jesus Christ, "The Door,"
          the one way to salvation.

John 3:16, God sent His Son
down to this earth to die,
If you reject so great a Love,
I ask you, tell me why.

"But God forbid that I should glory,
save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom the world is crucified unto me,
and I unto the world."  (Galatians 6:14)
