Thanksgiving Day.

Thanksgiving Day

As I checked off my calendar
I was a little bit surprised
Thanksgiving is on its way
There is no way it can be disguised

That's when I think back
To that first Thanksgiving Day
When young America gave God praise
For this brand new holiday

The men took off to hunt for meat
All those wild turkey and the deer
And women cooked and baked enough
It seemed for a whole festive year

Families came together
All who worked and prayed
made roast turkey and stuffing
Rich gravy with biscuits top grade

Cabbage salad and winter squash
Potatoes, peas, and corn, pumpkin pies
But before the eating began
There were prayers from sunrise

God had to smile that Thanksgiving Day
As His people gave thanks to Him
And He opened wide Heaven's Doors
And invited them all in

Remember to give God thanks
As we celebrate America's first holiday
Not just for Thanksgiving
But for what He does every day

It gives me a warm feeling in my heart to write poetry.  I am a "Golden Ager" shut-in and writing keeps my mind busy with something I've done ever since I was a child, and it's my way of sharing our LORD with who ever comes to visit.  Thanks for reading my poetry - I'd love to hear your comments.  May God richly bless you.  Send emails to:   EvaYoung @ SkyWriting.Net
