As I was packing up Auntie's attic,
a most wonderful treasure was found.
Among the trunks and boxes,
lay a book that was leather-bound.
For hours, I leafed through its pages
of pictures from the past.
I silently studied the faces
and was glad to have met them at last.
Something eerie about those photos
struck a tender chord in my heart.
The longer I looked, I came to see
what I should have seen from the start.
Once I got past my fascination
with the fashion of yester years,
concentration overwhelmed me
and my eyes filled up with tears.
Without doubt, these were my people.
I could see it in their eyes
and other familiar features
only kin fully recognize.
And now when I look in the mirror,
it's more than my own face I see.
Though I may be unique as a person,
I'm part of a family.
This treasure found in the attic
is more than I hold in my hand.
From this I see that's naught by chance,
God always has a plan.
