A Chain of Events
Have you ever had that feeling like you
are running around in circles?
You know, those times when you believe
that activity means you are going places
but you end up in the same place each time.
Activity doesn't mean you are going anywhere
if you don't know where you want to go.
Sir Isaac Newton discovered in his third law of
physics..."For every action there is an equal
and opposite reaction."
An example would be someone shooting a
basketball toward the net. The force of the ball
by the person toward the net creates an opposite
reaction of the ball pushing back. Friction keeps
the shooter in place as he/she pushes the ball.
Now, put roller skates on that same person and
you'll see that as they push the ball away, they
roll backwards.
The bigger the push, the bigger the push back.
Running in circles means you are trying to
push ahead.
Sometimes we run in small circles while other
times we run in large circles that encompasses
our entire life.
I have discovered that those circles are not a
useless, waste of time. They actually are creating
something.
As you get older and you look back at your life
you begin to see them differently.
Like the circles I ran in when both my son and
my wife had cancer.
Like the circles I ran in when my father died.
Or that circle I am still running in as a writer.
While in the seemingly endless circles, I saw no
real value. I ran confused. I ran in fear. I
ran away always returning to the same spot,
but a little farther down the road in life.
Like today. You may find yourself running or
walking in an endless maze of circles. But, I am
telling you that this very day is what you choose
to make of it, like life, time and love.
You'll suddenly look back one day, like I did today,
and see them not as the circles you ran in, a waste
of your time, but as life building moments that were
all connected like links in an unbreakable chain.
The chain does not hold you back but adds weight
to your stance, your foothold. So that the next time
you need to push back you'll not roll back.
Ah, yes...all those little circles you've been running
in were really "a chain of events" that brought you to
this place.
I, my friend, am grateful that somehow you and I were
linked together.
As the old gospel song by Ada Habershon &
Charles Gabriel goes...
"Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye
There's a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky"
Thanks, God for the circles in my life!
"I wish you enough!"
