The Story of Me
My life's much less before me. But even as I'm looking back, I relish what's before me. Lord, let my eyes be open; don't let me miss a thing. Hand-in-hand with the love of my life, grant me the voice to sing. I long for simple pleasures, Lord, and not for fortune or fame. I pray that all I'll do and say bring honor to Your name. I want to grow a backyard garden; a place to plant and weed and sow, where I can go out every morning and watch the seedlings as they grow. I yearn to sail toward the sunrise on a calm and shining sea; to taste the salt spray on my tongue and to cast my line into the deep. What fun to walk in peaceful meadows with my little dogs at heel. I'll kick off my shoes, and wiggle my toes and gleefully giggle at how it feels. I'd love to hear sweet birdsong and to walk in springtime rain, knowing every path I take will lead me home again. I pray for humility enough to be grateful; and courage enough to be bold. Give me honor enough to be faithful; grant me love to ward off the cold. I have every hope for the future; the past is but memory. The Lord's already written the story, and He has named it Me. |
