With this new year have come new challenges.
I sit here writing this at my dad’s hospital bedside.
I hear the machines beeping and his breathing rhythmically chiming in the background.
This year has not begun how I imagined. Despite this circumstance, I want to do the strongest thing that I can do – believe.

This world will require courage for us to navigate. Some of us have harsh circumstances around us. And some of us can’t stay out of our own way. The common factor here is that, no matter what is going on, life is going to require courage and the ability to believe no matter what.
Things may not always turn out how we wish no matter how deeply we desire certain outcomes, but the ability to hold on to hope, to believe that you can be better on the other side of the storm, that is something we all need.
You can not swim for new horizons until you have courage to lose sight of the shore.

Take this new year with whatever it throws at you. Dare to let the circumstances make you stronger, no matter how dire.
